We are excited to have our partners at UTC and Carbon 5 continuing their research of tracking brain waves of people during physical activity. As part of the Erlanger Chattanooga Marathon’s commitment to innovative technology and involving our community partners, UTC has been involved with race weekend since the inaugural year in 2016. This year, we decided to take the research to the next level and track brain waves of people training for the race to evaluate the different effects training and the environment has on a runner.

Over the next few months, UTC professors Andrew Bailey and Nicholas Boer will be evaluating the brainwaves of 10 volunteers in different scenarios. Each volunteer will wear the brainwaves tracking headset and wristband to track heart rate, distance and brain wave functions through their physical exercise. Activities range from running at different speeds and inclines on a treadmill, to running specific parts of the course and ending race weekend running the race!

Our first test was completed last week as we got a glimpse into the brains of our volunteers training for the full and half marathons. Check out the video below as you see our volunteers pushed to their limits on the treadmill and what was going on in their brain in those exact moments.

Special thanks to UTC, Carbon 5 and our volunteers.
