THOUGHTS ON RUNNING

I don't know what gets you out the door and logging the miles , but for me it's that thought, corny as it may sound, that I am blessed to get to run . At my age (65 in March) many people I know have had to abandon running for a sport that "isn't so hard on my body" or similar commentary .

I try and encourage them to be kind to their body and mindful and it's a message I'd send to runners of all ages. So, as you train for the Erlanger Chattanooga Marathon--whether it's the 5k, relay, half or full, I'd say to consider My 4 V's:

VALUE your miles, whether you're running two or ten and build it up slowly. The surest way to injury is to go from a one-miler to a 10--trust me, I've done it wrong and paid for it.

VINDICATION is mine !! Every day will not be a great run but there's always a next one and that's a great thing !

VACATION time can still be training time just realize you may not get all those miles in but if you plan right , you will get some done.

VARY your runs by pace, length and incline. The surest way to boredom and poor results is to train all the time the same way. And remember, Chattanooga is very hilly so hill repeats, repeatedly :)
